Holly’s Favorite Jalapeño Margarita (No Mix Needed)

I love flavors that are spicy, salty, tangy and not to mention food & drinks that look divine!

It’s no secret that I love Tequila! Over the past few years I have tried A LOT of margaritas…many of those from other countries…and I’ve narrowed my tastes down to this very simple but delicious recipe. I’m not a huge fan of sugar-filled margarita mixes. My drinks never taste very authentic when I’ve reached for a pre-made mix. This recipe is simple, pure & straight to the point! I’ve learned that all you really need for a great margarita is an adequate amount of salt, lime juice & a good tequila. Even my beer-drinking Dad enjoys my signature cocktail of choice!

Enjoy! Let me know down in the comments what you think of this drink if you give it a try.

Ingredients (for one drink):

  • Margarita salt

  • Tajin (literally tastes good on everything)

  • 2 limes

  • 1 large lemon

  • Fresh cilantro (to taste)

  • Fresh jalapeño (to taste)

  • 1 oz. Triple Sec (I like Montezuma)

  • 1 oz. Tequila (I like Olmeca Altos, Patrón or Camerena).

  • Club soda (optional - I don’t usually add this to my drinks).

  • Ice

Helpful supplies:

  • mortar and pestle

  • shaker

  • margarita glasses

Step 1: Muddle cilantro & jalapeño with your mortar and pestle. This helps release the oils for a better flavor. Depending on how hot your peppers are, the more you muddle-the more spicy it gets! Obviously skip this step if you are opting to not include this in your recipe…although I have no idea why you wouldn’t because it’s delicious!!!

Step 2: Add ice to your shaker and pour in your muddled cilantro and jalapeño. Squeeze in lemon and lime juice, top off of with 1:1 of triple sec and tequila of your choice. Be generous with your lemon/lime juice—it will make for a better tasting margarita.

Step 3: Use your used lime wedge to rub the rim of your cocktail glass and dip the glass into your salt/tajin. Sometimes I will even mix margarita salt and tajin into a single Tupperware so that I have an even coating all around the rim of my glass. After you have salted your glass, pour in fresh ice.

Step 4: Give your mix a good shake (at least 10)! The more you shake the better it gets.

Step 5: Pour your mixture over ice and ta-da! A “skinny” and spicy margarita to perfection.

If you are using club soda to thin out your drink (make it less strong) than that would be your final step!
